Why Mecobag?

“Less than 1% of plastic bags are recycled and it takes up to 1,000 years for a plastic bag to break down!”

Hi my name is Paxton. I was born in Panama, close to the Pacific Ocean. I am also Canadian, and Greek.

I love spending time at the beach, but I started noticing a lot of plastic pollution in the water and at the beach. It didn’t matter if I was on a beach in Panama, Greece, or Canada, I saw plenty of plastic waste, especially plastic bags.

After doing some research, I learned that we use 5 trillion plastic bags a year! That is  equivalent to 160,000 every second!

Do you know what’s worse? Most bags are thrown in the garbage. Less than 1% of plastic bags are recycled and it takes up to 1,000 years for a plastic bag to break down. Many of these bags end up in our oceans, lakes, and rivers.

I thought to myself, we can do better than this. So I decided to create a solution to help reduce plastic pollution. That was the beginning of Mecobag.
